Heating FAQs

How long does a furnace typically last for?

Furnaces typically last for between 15-20 years, given proper maintenance. While some furnaces last longer, it’s usually around this age that furnaces begin to break down, require more frequent repair, and become less efficient. If your furnace is poorly maintained or not maintained at all, the lifespan could be shorter.

What is the cost of a new furnace installation?

The price of new furnace depends largely on the model you choose, including brand, size, and efficiency rating. Typically a furnace installation ranges between $2,000 and $6,000, but it can end up costing more depending upon your home’s needs.

What brands of furnaces does Gregg Mechanical install?

For repair and maintenance work, we can provide you with a solution for just about any gas heating system. For installations and replacements, we work with a number of quality brands, including Lennox furnaces and boilers.

Why isn’t my furnace warming up my house?

If your furnace is running but your house isn’t getting any warmer, there’s a good chance you have a problem with your filter. Dirty filters are one of the most common causes of furnace issues, and a clogged filter will cause the furnace to overheat and shut off too quickly.

Why won’t my furnace ignite?

If your furnace won’t turn on at all, the pilot light is likely the culprit. A clogged pilot orifice, a bad thermocouple, or a problem with the safety cutoff value could all be the issue. If you have an electric ignition, the issues is likely due to a problem with wiring or the circuit.

Why is my furnace making loud noises?

When a furnace becomes loud, rattles, or makes any unusual noises, it’s usually because it hasn’t been properly maintained. If you’re having an issue like this with your furnace, contact us for a professional furnace inspection and maintenance appointment. Without professional inspection, there’s no way to guarantee the issue will be solved.

How frequently do I need furnace maintenance?

We recommend that at a minimum you have your furnace service once per year, prior to the start of heating season. If your system is older or has issues functioning correctly, you may require additional maintenance or repair work.
